Massachusetts

Out-of-state MNT via telehealth is allowed for a patient located in the Commonwealth if the practitioner: Is licensed or certified in good standing in any U.S. state or territory, and has a scope of practice that includes Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT). In addition, telehealth MNT must meet one of these conditions:

  • Consultation model: The out-of-state practitioner provides MNT in consultation with a Commonwealth-licensed MNT practitioner who already has an established practitioner–patient relationship with the patient.

  • Temporary visit model: The patient is temporarily in the Commonwealth (e.g., for business, work, school, vacation), and the out-of-state practitioner already has a current practitioner–patient relationship with the patient.

  • Short-term continuity model: The out-of-state practitioner has a current practitioner–patient relationship, and services are temporary/short-term follow-up MNT to ensure continuity of care.
