  • If your patient is physically located in Washington, DC, you generally must be licensed/registered/certified in DC to provide telehealth services.

  • Exception (if you are not DC-licensed): You may provide telehealth only if you already have an existing provider–patient relationship and one of the following applies:

    • The patient is temporarily in DC (e.g., traveling), or

    • The patient is a DC resident and telehealth services do not exceed 120 days (unless DC extends this timeframe).

  • Telehealth may also be permitted if services fall under an interstate reciprocity agreement or licensure compact recognized by DC.
