🔢Paid Time & Units

Berry Street compensates providers based on actual time spent in session, not scheduled duration.

To protect providers, patients, and the integrity of the Berry Street network, all practitioners must follow strict billing and documentation standards outlined in the onboarding module, Billing Compliance and Documentation Integrity. Only real-time, direct patient interactions—such as in-person sessions, phone calls, or live video visits—are billable, and the time must be continuous within a single session (e.g., a call restarted after a tech issue counts if documented properly).

Non-billable activities include reviewing food journals outside sessions, messaging patients, collateral contacts, or any work done without live, face-to-face (or voice) interaction. Improper billing risks audits, contract loss, and patient access to care, and may result in provider deactivation. When in doubt, email [email protected] for guidance.

Time is converted into billing units (1 unit = 15 minutes), rounded to the nearest quarter hour.

Examples:

  • 43 minutes with patient → 3 units (45 mins paid time)

  • 78 minutes with patient → 5 units (75 mins paid time)
